An Independent Institute Governed By Multiple Stakeholders

The multi-stakeholder governance of the Global Tailings Management Institute (GTMI) is critical to ensure transparency, accountability and ultimately build trust among all interested parties.

From the inception of the Global Tailings Review (GTR), to the development of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) and the establishment of the GTMI, every decision has been shaped by diverse stakeholder input.

Today, the GTMI board of directors represents the interests of various industries and communities.

GTMI Memorandum of Incorporation

The Global Tailings Management Institute registered as a company in South Africa in January 2025. A Memorandum of Incorporation, was adopted by the Incorporators of the company and outlines the rules and regulations for how the company operates. It defines its structure, directors and purpose.
